That Slide is Still Here

Updated: Dec 1, 2020

Last winter, Grandpa made an enormous, winter slide for our kids. Towering on our front lawn, it has two legs resting on the porch while the other two find their home somewhere in the grass. Needless to say, the kids love it, having given them many hours of fun as they took turns sliding down our front lawn at top speed in the winter months. That was last year.

With winter ending, I promised myself (and others who will not be named) that I would take it apart, once again revealing a better view of the gardens that hide behind its wooden structure.

And yet, as summer comes to a close and the cool air moves in to remind us all of what’s coming, I am again staring at something in my life that was no longer supposed to be here.

You see, we like to believe that we are the kind of people that deal with things. You and I, people you work with and people you call family; we all tell ourselves that we have and will deal with those things in our past that we know we should.

Perhaps it’s a terrible wound from earlier in life that we continue to just ignore. Perhaps it’s a destructive relationship that continues to fester and cause wounds. And maybe it’s simply a habit that we continue to repeat, all the while knowing what it does to our future and those we love.

Either way, it is not supposed to be here.

So here is my question for you. What will it take for you to finally deal with it? I’m not saying that it will be easy. And I am certainly not saying that you are going to like the process; but friend, God has a new season in store for you and your slide is just blocking the view.
